The Rise of Regional Influence Amid the Absence of Global Balance2

In recent years, the world has witnessed a significant shift in the balance of political power. Traditional global powers have seen their roles decline, while regional actors are rising to fill the void—often at the expense of international stability. This shift has created a political vacuum that some states have exploited to pursue unilateral agendas, bypassing international frameworks and consensus.

In the Middle East, for instance, the lack of a unified international stance on ongoing conflicts has allowed certain countries to intervene in the affairs of their neighbors—whether through military involvement, economic leverage, or influence via media and technology. As a result, tensions have escalated, and crises have deepened, while political solutions remain hostage to competing interests.

What the world needs today is a revival of multilateralism and global balance. This can be achieved by strengthening the role of international organizations and enforcing clear principles that govern state relations, while respecting national sovereignty and the right of peoples to self-determination.
